Functional Skills English and Maths, land based qualifications in Animal or Horse Care
Functional Skills
Our Functional Skills qualifications are intended for learners to develop their maths and English. They focus on both the underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply maths and English to different contexts. Functional Skills qualifications are available across five levels (Entry 1 to Level 2). Delivery methods of functional skills are adapted to meet the young person’s individual learning needs. Learners benefit from our practical-based approach, involving creative application of Maths and English in the outdoor environment.
New Vocational Courses
We are working in collaboration with KIETS- KEITS is one of the country’s premier private training providers specialising in apprenticeships and other training courses throughout the land-based industries. KEITS are prominent in working nationally with a diverse range of businesses in Equine, Animal Care, Dog Grooming and Horticultural industries.
The Seeds of Change can offer our young people work-related, vocational qualifications, which are recognised and highly regarded within the horse-care/equine and animal-based industries. Learners achieve a City and Guilds accredited qualification, alongside valuable vocational and work experience.
Horse Care/Equine
The UK Equine industry is a diverse and economically significant sector. Our equine courses allow young people to gain vital skills and knowledge for a career with horses, tailored to specific areas of equine industry. Leaners from the age of 16 can access this pathway. City and Guilds Accreditations in horse care include:
Level 1
Level 1 Award in Horse Care- 90 guided learning hours
Level 1 Certificate in Horse Care- 252 guided learning hours
Level 1 Diploma in Horse Care- 410 guided learning hours
The Level 1 qualification in horse care, is designed for those new to working with horses. This qualification covers the basic
principles of horse care and includes tasks such as feeding, brushing, and routine yard duties.
Level 2:
Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care- 645 guided learning hours
The Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care is designed to provide practical training and knowledge for those looking to enter the equine industry. Learners will cover essential topics such as stable management, horse health and care routines. Practical experience and relevant work-based learning provides learners with the relevant skills to pursue a role in horse care.

Animal Care
Animal Care is one of the largest industries in the UK and covers a wide variety of roles and career paths. Our Courses offer high-quality training in a variety of different pathways, all providing the industry with a knowledgeable and experienced workforce. Learners from the age of 14 onwards can access this pathway.
City and Guilds Accreditations in animal care include:
Level 1:
Level 1 Award in Animal Care – 90 guided learning hours
Level 1 Certificate in Animal Care – 132 guided learning hours
Level 1 Diploma in Animal Care – 342 guided learning hours
The City & Guilds Level 1 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Work-based Animal Care are programmes of work-based training and assessment leading to nationally recognised qualifications. They aim to:
• Meet the needs of learners who work or want to work in the animal care sector
• Allow learners to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the animal care sector.
Level 2:
Level 2 Award in Animal Care – 72-76 guided learning hours
Level 2 Certificate in Animal Care- 330-440 guided learning hours
The aim of this qualification is to provide a work-related, competence-based qualification. It reflects the skills and knowledge
needed to do a job effectively and shows that a learner is competent in the area of work the qualification represents. Learners
prepare for different routes in the animal care industry such as Animal Care and Welfare, Wildlife Establishments, Kennel
assistant roles, Pet Care and Retail and Animal Training.
