Re-Engagement Programme Case Studies

* Jack's Story

Jack was referred from a Pupil Referral Unit in Year 11. He lacked confidence and self esteem, was vulnerable around other students and at risk of being bullied. He had been excluded from 2 schools and a college and had dis-engaged from mainstream education.

Jack was referred to the Seeds of Change on the Inspiring and Supporting Young People programme to re-engage him back into education, and to improve his chances of achieving positive outcomes in training and employment in the future. The course was a 12 week re-engagement group programme that incorporated the Seeds of Change Foundation course and a City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Employability & Personal Development.

When Jack started he was reluctant to engage with the horses at the Centre, and required much support and guidance in order to complete simple tasks.

Over the 12 sessions, Jack began to grow in confidence and was willing to work outside his comfort zone developing his personal and practical skills. He was able to recognise the importance of the work at the Centre and applied himself fully to tasks. He showed a true understanding of how the work of the Seeds of Change could help to prepare him for the future. As the course progressed Jack grew in confidence and ability and he became a motivator and mentor to other less confident members of the group. On completion of the programme Jack gained his Level 1 Award in Employability and Personal Development.

Jack went on to Shuttleworth College to study a Level 1 Diploma in Animal Care and Equine Studies. We received this email from Jack:

"I just wanted to let you know that I have passed my level 1 diploma in animal care and equine. I still miss Amy, she was the best tutor and thank you very much for helping me and making me a better person and more relaxed".
